Diamond is a well-known and desired gem, at the same time it constitutes the object of sighs of many women all over the world. Today, diamonds mining reaches more than 30 tons a year. Nevertheless, not all the resources are used to produce the jewelery as only around 20% of the the diamonds mining is being given to that particular purpose and the whole process of selection may create another interesting story.

The fact is that the rest is used for industrial purposes. From the chemical point of view a diamond is just one of the carbon variety that has its beginning in volcanic magma as a result of huge pressure influence and extremely high temperature. That is why a natural thing is that one of the basic source of diamonds mining are extinct volcanoes. The second vital source of diamonds mining are rivers beds, both dry and with water. Finally, sandy coasts are also a good place for diamonds mining.

Another question arises: how do we suppose to look for it? There are several methods of finding diamonds. As far as the extinct volcanoes are concerned, ore is being achieved by digging, breaking or blowing up . It contains diamonds that are cleaned and rinsed out. With places like river bed, diamonds mining lies in gravel digging, sifting and rinsing. With the last mentioned process, little known ability of the precious gem is being used which is their viscosity to any kinds of grease. In this case, the rinsing is done with using of a special trough rubbed with fat. Here, the granules of any other minerals goes away with the water whilst the pieces of diamonds stays at the diamonds mining pot.

Sandy coasts are being searched in the same way. It is definitely a good and tested way of diamonds mining, with its help the bigger gems are taken manually and the smaller ones are being taking off with the grease from time to time.

At first, diamonds mining was known in India, where diamonds were highly valued. From the time where the precious gem has found acclaimed in every corner of the world, everybody is looking for a good place to find it. The mentioned India diamonds mining, which used to be the only known place people could find the strong minerals, has lost their fame and very little number of diamond is being found there nowadays. Some countries, like Canada, diamonds mining achieved industrial character using the most modern means. Nevertheless, most of the countries that are able to boast of diamonds mining use the most
standard, old methods like rinsing the sand of rivers, as it is in Sierra
Leone, for example.
